What is EPC?
  • EPC acronym means Electronic Product Code. It is a universal unique code that would be providing fast and detailed information of products anywhere in the supply chain. It’s very similar to the UPC (Universal Product Code) used in bar codes, however the goal, is not to replace them, but to help companies to move from bar code to RFID.

  • All the information about the product aren’t stored in the memory of the transponder, but in middleware or server database, where a specific software processes relatively unstructured EPC data directing them to appropriate information systems.

  • Although EPC is only an Object Code, not necessarily related to a particular frequency range, its development has been linked to UHF, with its different frequency allocations.
